Tried translating a Rabindra sangeet for the first time in my life !!

I wonder who has stolen all the sleep from my eyes . .
And left me dying with those sleepless nights . .
My thirsty eyes are ever eager to see her . .
She is the one in search of whom I wonder about all alone . .
A flute plays a sweet tune all by itself in my heart . .
Reminding me of her presence somewhere around !
How strange is it that I hear her words in my ears
Even though she doesn't seem to speak anything...
My heart pains and my eyes glitter with tears..
As I see her shadow swinging day and night near me..
And as I die for a glimpse of her real being !!

জাগরণে যায় বিভাবরী আঁখি হতে ঘুম নিল হরি কে নিল হরি মরি মরি !!
যার লাগি ফিরি একা একা - আঁখি পিপাসিত নাহি দেখাঁ,
তারি বাঁশি ওগো তারি বাঁশি তারি বাঁশি বাজে হিয়া ভরি মরি মরি ।
বাণী নাহি, তবু কানে কানে কী যে শুনি তাহা কেবা জানে।
এই হিয়াভরা বেদনাতে, বারি-ছলোছলো আঁখিপাতে,

ছায়া দোলে তারি ছায়া দোলে ছায়া দোলে দিবানিশি ধরি মরি মরি॥

খালি পেটে ব্লাড সেম্পল

ছোটবেলা থেকেই বাড়িতে রোজ ঠাকুর পুজো দিয়ে আসছি । তবে পুজো শেষ হতে না হতেই প্রসাদ সর্বপ্রথম এই ক্ষুদ্র ঠাকুরমশাইয়ের পেটেই যেত । এ নিয়ে বাড়িতে খুব হাসাহাসি হত । বয়স সাত থেকে সাঁইত্রিশ হয়ে গেল কিন্তু পুজোর শেষে প্রথম প্রসাদ খাওয়ার সেই অভ্যাস আজও আছে । কয়েক দিন আগে আমার স্ত্রী মুন খানিকটা বিচলিত হয়ে আমার ব্লাড সুগার টেস্টের জন্য একজন দাদা কে খবর পাঠালেন। পরের দিন সকালে বাড়িতে আসবে খালি পেটে ব্লাড সেম্পল নিতে । মুন আমাকে রাতে মনে করিয়ে দিয়েছিল যে সকালে সেম্পল খালি পেটে দিতে হবে । পরের দিন বিকেলে হোয়াটসেপে টেস্টের রিপোর্ট দেখে মুনের খুব মন খারাপ । দেখলাম ফাস্টিং সুগার ১০৫ । সঙ্গে রিপোর্টে লেখা নর্মাল রেঞ্জ ৭৪ - ৯৯ । আমি বললাম ভয়ের কিছুই নেই । ৬ ইউনিট সুগার নিশ্চয় ঠাকুর পুজোর প্রসাদ নকুলদানার জন্যেই বেড়েছে । ছোটবেলার অভ্যাস ! খালি পেটে সেম্পল দেওয়া আমার জন্য এতটা সহজ নয় ।

Bring the change ..

"Change cannot be given to you every time. You must bring the change."   These lines feel so great in one sense but on the other side of the coin, we often get to hear this from shopkeepers, bus conductors, taxi drivers, fruit sellers etc. Shopping Malls escape these lines through card payments or chocolates. The problem of getting change from vendors is really a fundamental problem in India. Many a times, we are bound to accept toffees in lieu of change. In this post, I shall describe a few funny incidents that happened with me for this "change problem". During my college days, a xerox centre near our college always used to offer chlormints instead of giving change. I had to accept their chlormints against my will on several occasions.
